eBay, Mercari, Poshmark or local: where you keep the most
Updated October 26, 2026
Where you sell changes what you keep more than most people expect. Each platform charges differently: some take a share of the price, some of the price plus the buyer’s tax, some have the buyer pay the shipping label.
The fee rules
| Platform | Fee | Shipping label |
|---|---|---|
| eBay | 13.6% of the sale total (incl. the buyer's tax) + $0.40 an order ($0.30 at $10 or less) | You pay |
| Mercari | 10% of price + buyer-paid shipping | You pay |
| Poshmark | $2.95 under $15, else 20% of price (buyer pays the label) | Buyer pays |
| Facebook (shipped) | 10% of the total (incl. tax), at least $0.80 | You pay |
| Local cash sale | no fee (Facebook local, OfferUp local) | None |
Checked 2026-10-26 on each platform’s own fee page (linked). Fees change: KeepHawk updates the table when they do.
What each one takes from a sale
The fee plus the label where you pay it (estimated at $11.50), with 7% buyer sales tax where a platform charges on it.
| Sale price | eBay | Mercari | Poshmark | Facebook (shipped) | Local cash sale |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $25.00 | $15.54 | $14.00 | $5.00 | $14.18 | $0.00 |
| $75.00 | $22.81 | $19.00 | $15.00 | $19.53 | $0.00 |
| $150.00 | $33.73 | $26.50 | $30.00 | $27.55 | $0.00 |
| $329.00 | $59.78 | $44.40 | $65.80 | $46.70 | $0.00 |
How to choose
- On cheaper items, a fixed label cost weighs most: a platform where the buyer pays shipping, or a local sale, often keeps more.
- On pricier items, the percentage matters most: compare the fee rates.
- Local cash sales keep the most but take your time and reach fewer buyers.
- Where buyers for your item actually shop matters as much as the fee: a lower fee with no buyers keeps nothing.
