The real price: shipping, sales tax and pickup
Updated October 26, 2026
The price on the tag is only part of what you pay. Shipping and sales tax are added at checkout, and they differ from store to store. Comparing tags instead of totals is the most common way to pick the wrong offer.
What the total includes
Total = price + shipping + sales tax on the item
- Shipping: free, a fixed charge, or not stated until checkout. When a store doesn’t say, KeepHawk marks the total as incomplete rather than guessing.
- Sales tax: depends on where it’s delivered or picked up. KeepHawk uses your ZIP (for example, 7.0% for 33301 in Broward County, Florida).
- Pickup: no shipping charge, but it costs your time and the drive.
An example
| Offer | Tag price | Shipping | Tax | Total |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Store A | $214.99 | $7.99 | $15.05 | $238.03 |
| Store B | $219.00 | Free | $15.33 | $234.33 |
Store A’s tag is lower, but once shipping is added Store B costs less in total. KeepHawk sorts every search by the total, never by the tag.
Before you buy
- Compare totals for your own ZIP, not tag prices.
- Check when it arrives if you’re reselling: money tied up in a slow delivery is money not earning.
- For pickup, count the drive.
